35th Anniversary Dinner and Reception |
Invitations are being mailed to all Decker School alumni, supporters, and friends to join Dean Sarah H. Gueldner, faculty, and staff of the Decker School of Nursing in celebration of 35 years of nursing education at a reception to be held Friday, May 13.
Additionally, we are excited to announce that Dr. Ada Sue Hinshaw, RN, PhD, FAAN, a nationally and internationally recognized nursing leader and pioneer nurse researcher, will be joining us at the Decker School's celebratory reception and dinner in honor of the School's 35th anniversary. Binghamton University will be honoring Dr. Hinshaw with the conferral of an honorary degree, Doctor of Science, to be presented at the Binghamton University Professional Schools commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 15.
Dr. Hinshaw "has been recognized with many of nursing's most prestigious awards and positions, including Nurse Scientist of the Year, Distinguished Health Leader of the Year, President of the American Academy of Nurses, and two terms on the Institute of Medicine Governing Council" (Houser & Player, 2004, p.105).
Presently Dean of the School of Nursing at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Dr. Hinshaw previously served as Director of the National Center for Nursing Research and is credited with laying the groundwork that transformed that agency into the National Insitute of Nursing Research (NINR) at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.
The Decker School community is proud and honored to have Dr. Hinshaw take part in our 35th anniversary celebration.
