Training the dogs

Our volunteer dogs are trained in an 8-hour course over a period of three weeks, at the end of which they earn the American Kennel Club Certification as a Canine Good Citizen. With the supervision of their owners, they are trained by Sharon Korncavage, a certified trainer and Golden Retriever Breeder. Sharon is also the president of the Golden Retriever Rescue Club. The training involves interaction with wheel-chair bound people, in a psuedo-nursing home setting, where the dogs are trained to maintain the safety of the patient as well as their own. This in-depth training allows the dogs to understand the interaction and responsiblities of visiting an elderly or person with special needs.
