Sample Two-Year Program Plan for RNs

The following two year plan assumes completion of all degree requirements except for nursing courses. Part-time or full-time (12 credits per semester) and accelerated options are also available. Nurs. 365 and nursing electives are offered every semester.

Full-time students are required to take additional electives and general education courses to meet degree requirements.

Accelerated RN Nursing Program

A two-semester Accelerated Program is available for selected RN students who have completed 70-76 credits, including all prerequisites, with a GPA of 3.0, with potential for success and a minimum of one year of work experience as an RN. References and a personal interview are required. The Accelerated Program requires full-time enrollment in 14-16 credits per semester.

Nursing Curriculum Prerequisites

Prerequisite courses which must be completed before enrollment in the nursing major include:

  • two composition courses
  • statistics
  • two semesters of human anatomy and physiology
  • microbiology
  • two semesters of chemistry, including principles of inorganic, organic, and biochemistry
  • introductory psychology
  • developmental psychology

Registered nurse students must complete at least 50 college credits in prerequisites, general education coursework, and general electives in order to enter the nursing major in the junior year. RN students may also apply as sophomores in order to enroll in prerequisites and other degree requirements.

Costs and Financial Aid

Undergraduate Costs -Tuition for New York residents $2,175 per semester, plus fees. Summer session and part-time students $181 per credit, plus fees.
Tuition for non-residents $5,150 per semester, plus fees. Summer session and part-time students pay $429 per credit, plus fees.

Financial aid is offered to qualified candidates in the form of scholarships, grants, loans, and/or employment. Students may apply for assistance by completing the federal government’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), indicating on the form that the processing agency send information to Binghamton University (SUNY), code number 002836. This form is available in high school guidance offices and college financial aid offices. In addition, NYS residents should complete the current edition of the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) Application, also readily available in schools and colleges. Currently enrolled nursing students may be eligible for special aid programs including loans and local grants. The Decker School of Nursing has a limited number of scholarships available with specific eligibility criteria including merit and in some cases, residency requirements.
