Gale A. Spencer was recently named to the rank of Distinguished Professor at the Decker School of Nursing. Dr. Spencer joins 51 Binghamton colleagues who have been honored as distinguished faculty by the State University of New York Board of Trustees.

Spencer received her Ph.D. from Syracuse University. She has also been a recipient of the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching, and in 2004 received the Faculty Excellence Award in Graduate Mentoring from the Graduate School.

A mentor to students and junior faculty as well as a national leader in community health nursing education, Spencer was appointed to an endowed professorship, the Decker Chair in Community Health Nursing, in 2006.
